Johannesburg and Accra were named among the world's top 20 nightlife destinations for 2026 by Time Out.
Jo'burg ranked 7th globally and was the highest-scoring African city, recognized for its dynamic and diverse nightlife scenes.
The ranking was compiled from responses from more than 24,000 locals, combined with assessments from Time Out’s city editors, culture experts and nightlife specialists.
Time Out assessed cities based on factors including the quality and affordability of nightlife, clubbing and cocktail-bar scenes, community, safety, excitement, diversity and how welcoming each destination is.
Accra ranked 18th globally, with Time Out pointing to the Ghanaian capital’s established nightlife districts and growing mix of bars, clubs, live music venues and alternative entertainment spaces.
