Nigerian-American engineer and Harvard graduate Yinka Ogunbiyi is making waves in the global technology and beauty industries with the development of HaloBraid, the world’s fi rst braid-assist robot designed to support professional hairstylists and transform the braiding experience.

Created alongside co-founder David Afolabi, HaloBraid is designed to automate some of the most physically demanding aspects of hair braiding, helping stylists complete protective hairstyles more effi ciently while reducing fatigue and repetitive strain injuries associated with long hours of manual braiding.

The innovation addresses a growing challenge within the haircare industry, where intricate braided hairstyles can take several hours to complete, placing signifi cant physical demands on stylists. Rather than replacing hairstylists, HaloBraid is intended to serve as an assistant that allows professionals to work faster, serve more clients, and improve overall productivity.
The startup behind the technology has already attracted signifi cant investor interest, reportedly raising $7 million in funding while generating interest from more than 7,000 salons, highlighting the commercial potential of robotics in the beauty sector.
