What happens when Morocco decides to build a stadium for more than 100,000 football fans? The result is the Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane, near Casablanca.
With a planned capacity of 115,000 spectators, the stadium is set to become Africa’s largest football venue and a major centrepiece of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co host with Spain and Portugal.
The project is estimated to cost about 5 billion Moroccan dirhams. Its design combines modern architecture with Moroccan culture, drawing inspiration from the traditional Moussem gathering.
Beyond football, the wider complex will feature sports facilities, commercial spaces, a hotel and green areas.
The Grand Stade Hassan II is more than a stadium. It reflects Morocco’s growing investment in sports infrastructure and its ambition to host some of the world’s biggest sporting events.
