Tanzania’s long-term Mkuju River uranium project has gained renewed investment momentum following President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s visit to Russia, with officials signalling that implementation is moving closer to full-scale development.
The project, which has been stalled for more than a decade, is being developed in Tanzania's Ruvuma region.
Backed by a $1.2 billion partnership with Russia's Rosatom State Corporation, the mine aims to process an estimated 300,000 tonnes of uranium.
The project marks Tanzania's official entry into the global nuclear map, establishing it among the top uranium-producing nations in Africa.
The mine is expected to generate over 4,000 direct jobs and boost local infrastructure, with the government holding a 20% stake.
