Farming Is Not Just for Old People Anymore

For a long time, farming in Nigeria was seen as work for the elderly or those who had "nothing better to do." But today, that mindset is changing — fast.

A new generation of young Nigerians is entering agriculture, not with hoes and cutlasses, but with business plans, smartphones, and big vision. They’re farming smarter — using social media to market, WhatsApp to coordinate sales, and drones to monitor crops.

Young people are growing vegetables in cities, running poultry farms from home, processing food for export, and using tech platforms like Farmcrowdy, ThriveAgric, and AgroMall to access funding and markets.

Why? Because they’ve realized something powerful: farming is money. It’s freedom. And it’s the future.

Africa has the land, the market, and the people. What it needs is for more youth to see agriculture not as “dirty work” — but as a serious business.
