30% of Babies Born On Christmas Day Were Born In Africa, Data Reveals

2026-01-16 15:48 Health
Approximately 363,000 babies were born worldwide on Christmas Day. Roughly 30% (108,000) of these babies were born in Africa.

Nigeria alone was projected to have roughly 21,000 births yesterday—nearly three times the number expected in the USA on the same day. These figures are based on 2025 projections from the UN and World Bank.

While precise real-time counts take months to verify, these statistical models are highly reliable for daily averages.
Africa's population is projected to nearly double from around 1.5 billion in 2023 to 2.5-2.7 billion by 2050, becoming the world's primary growth engine, and could reach 3.3 to 4.47 billion by 2100, potentially equaling Asia's population size.
