Why Young Nigerians Ignore Their Health Until It’s Too Late

In Nigeria, many young people believe health is only a concern for the old. As long as you’re not coughing blood or collapsing, you’re “fine.” But that mindset is killing us slowly.

We chase the hustle. Skip meals. Sleep 3 hours. Drink energy drinks instead of water. Then one day, the body says, “I’m done.”

Hospitals are expensive, yes. But avoiding checkups or pretending you’re “too young to fall sick” can cost even more — your peace, your productivity, or even your life.

The scary part? Diseases like high blood pressure, ulcers, diabetes, and depression now show up in people under 30.

Here’s what you can start doing:

    • Drink more water.
    • Sleep when you need to.
    • Do regular health checks (blood pressure, sugar level, STI tests).
    • Don’t self-medicate. Google is not your doctor.
    • Rest isn’t laziness — it’s survival.

You don’t have to wait till you collapse to take your health seriously. Your body has carried you this far — don’t treat it like it’s disposable.
