Voting is important — but real leadership starts after the elections. In many African countries, including Nigeria, people often vote and walk away, hoping for miracles. But democracy doesn't work like that.
Good governance requires constant pressure from the people. Leaders must know that they are being watched, questioned, and held to their promises. That means tracking budgets, asking hard questions, attending town hall meetings, and speaking up when things go wrong.
We can't only be active during campaigns. We must be active citizens every day — online, offline, and in our communities.
A strong democracy needs strong leaders — but more importantly, it needs strong followers who are not afraid to demand better.
