President John Dramani Mahama has firmly condemned any form of xenophobia within Ghana, reassuring Nigerian nationals and other foreign residents that they are safe and welcome in the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the President emphasized Ghana’s longstanding tradition of hospitality and pan-African solidarity, describing xenophobia as "alien to the Ghanaian spirit and values."

“There is absolutely no place for xenophobia in Ghana,” President Mahama declared. “We cherish our relationships with our African brothers and sisters, especially our close ties with Nigeria. Ghanaians and Nigerians have lived, worked and thrived together for decades, and we will continue to do so in peace and mutual respect.”

The President's remarks come in response to growing concerns about the safety of Nigerians living in Ghana, amid heightened tensions and isolated reports of anti-foreign sentiments across parts of the continent.
Mahama stressed that his government remains committed to ensuring the safety and dignity of all residents, regardless of nationality. He urged Ghanaians to stand united against any attempts to sow division or hatred within communities.

“We are one people with a shared history, and we must never allow fear or ignorance to drive us apart,” he added.

Nigerian community leaders in Ghana have welcomed the President’s statement, expressing appreciation for the reassurance and calling for continued dialogue and cooperation between the two nations.

With both countries playing vital roles in the West African region, Mahama’s stance is seen as a strong message of unity at a time when many African nations are grappling with rising nationalism and social tension.
