Women in Leadership: Breaking Barriers in African Politics

Leadership & Politics
African women have always been leaders — in homes, communities, and movements. But in politics, they’re often sidelined, silenced, or simply not given the chance. In Nigeria, women hold less than 10% of political positions. That’s not just unfair — it’s a loss of potential.
When women lead, they bring fresh perspectives, empathy, and strong community focus. Countries like Rwanda, where women make up over half of parliament, are seeing the benefits — in education, health, and governance.
Barriers like gender bias, violence, cultural expectations, and lack of support still hold many back. But across Africa, bold women are rising — contesting elections, leading protests, and creating policies that uplift everyone.
True progress needs inclusive leadership. When women lead, societies grow. It’s time we make space — and stand with them.
