Egypt, Qatar sign LNG cooperation agreement

Energy
Egypt and Qatar have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation on liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales and imports, reinforcing their energy ties. The agreement was signed in Doha by QatarEnergy’s President and CEO Saad Sherida al‑Kaabi, who is also Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, and Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi.

Under the MoU, QatarEnergy and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) agreed to supply up to 24 LNG cargoes to Egypt for the summer of 2026. These shipments aim to help meet Egypt’s growing demand for fuel during peak periods and support electricity generation and industrial needs.
Officials said the deal lays the groundwork for broader and longer‑term LNG cooperation. Discussions are expected to continue on expanding supplies and formalising longer‑duration contracts that would strengthen energy security for Egypt and deepen bilateral energy relations.

The move aligns with Egypt’s effort to diversify its energy supply sources and secure stable imports to support economic growth while reinforcing its position as a regional energy hub.
