Nigeria’s Jumia Was The First African Tech Startup To Be Listed On The New York Stock Exchange

In April 2019, Jumia Technologies, a pan-African technology company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and became the first-ever technology company from Africa to list on the world’s largest stock exchange.

Jumia started its first day of trading with an opening price of $14.50, under the ticker symbol JMIA, but the stock traded at the close of the day at $25.46 per share.
Often dubbed as ‘Africa’s Amazon’, Jumia operated in 14 African countries as of May 2020, and boasted of over 81,000 active sellers transacting with millions of consumers online.
