Manchester City forward Jeremy Doku has expressed gratitude to Ghanaians following their warm reception during his first visit to the country in 17 years.

The 23-year-old Belgian of Ghanaian descent touched down to a rousing welcome at the Kotoka International Airport, as he arrived for a series of activities including charity work.

Doku visited his family house in Madina, a suburb of Accra, before engaging the local folks to a community game with several fans watching as he enjoyed his time on a grassless pitch.

The talented forward crowned his visit with a trip to Manhyia to meet the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

"Back to the roots after 17 years. The land, the love, the legacy. Grateful to share this special moment with my people, my family. Thank you for the warm welcome," he posted on social media.

"Home is more than a place — it’s the laughter of family, the energy in the air, the colours, the smiles in the streets, the food," Jeremy wrote.

"Home, for me, is a feeling! Ghana gives me all of that and more. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to spend time with my loved ones and the chance to see the beauty of this country with fresh eyes."

Jeremy Doku has also received his Ghanaian passport, in a move that fulfills a long-held desire for the star player to formally connect with his African heritage.
